My tried and true Hiking, Backpacking and Camping Gear
Investing in gear you can rely on can be overwhelming with all the options there are. That’s why I have created this guide with my very own tried and tested items that I recommend from experience with them!

Clothing
Shorts– I have 3 hiking short recommendations for you! First up are the popular Patagonia baggies. I like both the 2.5” and 5”. My next recommendation is the Alder Apparel Surfs Up Short which is very similar to baggies. And finally, these are my favourite hiking shorts and come in 2 different lengths! They are the STIO Goodwin Short and I find them to fit me the best and perform well, even on technical hikes.

Fleece– I have many favourite fleeces so it’s hard to pick only a few, however my absolutely favourite fleece is from LL Bean. My next favourite is from Columbia. And finally, you can’t go wrong with any fleece from Patagonia.
Hiking
Boots– these are my favourite pair that are also relatively affordable for a high quality boot that will last you many years and kilometres!

Shoes– in Spring and Summer, I switch between shoes, sandals and boots; it really depends on the type of trail I’m going to. For shoes, these are the most comfortable, lightweight and breathable ones I have tried.
Sandals– if I am just out and about or hitting up a short and easy trail, I will most likely be wearing these Chaco sandals. They’re comfortable, sturdy, and cute.

Day Pack– I always carry my Patagonia Day Pack with me when hiking. It holds everything I may need, like my First Aid Kit, Camera, Food, Water, Etc.

Bibs– in wet and cold weather, bib overalls are what you’ll find me in. These are warm, adjustable and comfortable. They are also easy to wash.
Best Coat– Insulated, lightweight, stylish and comes in lots of colour options (colour block and solid colour), this is LL Bean’s Insulated Anorack and it is one my favourite pieces in my closet.

Raincoat– I love rain jackets that can fold up into a pouch because if you need it for any journey, you can easily bring it with you even with no backpack on.
Toque– Everyone needs a good toque. Especially for this price!
First Aid Kit- Just in case of an emergency, this is important to have.
Backpacking
Backpack- Backpacks can be an investment, so make sure you do your research on what you’re putting your money into. I have two recommendations to look into, Woods Chilkoot (40L is cheapest; it comes in multiple sizes) and Osprey’s Kestral. Osprey’s is comfier for me, however Woods offers a more affordable bag.

Hydration Bladder- Bringing water on a long journey is so important! Stay hydrated out there, folks! This one is the only one I’ve ever used.
Sleeping Pad- Sleeping pads can provide comfort and keep your warmer when sleeping. I have one used this one but I like it for it’s price and it’s functionality.
Sleeping Bag- I am still on the hunt for a good sleeping bag – stay tuned!
Dinner- this dinner is delicious, and you only need to add water.
Lunch- I truly love bars when I am on the go!
Breakfast- I simply recommend your typical package of oatmeal.
Snack- I discovered this when backpacking, but now I am addicted.
Camping
Tent- I have been using the Woods Creekside Tent since 2021 and it has held up perfectly for me! It is easy to set up, a great size and can withstand rain. When I go camping with my friends I usually bring this Mountain Warehouse Pop Up Tent instead to cut the set up time though.

Cookware- this comes with everything I use and it is compact and lightweight.
Camping Chair- if you’re looking for a comfortable chair, Woods Mammoth Chair is your best bet in my opinion. I have yet to try a good camping chair that has arm rests – let me know if you have any recommendations!
Car Camping Mattress- car camping can be just as comfy – or even more comfy- as tent camping! I am obsessed with this Luno Life Mattress, just make sure you pick the one that fits your car type.
Water Related Gear
Dry Bag– I use a Woods Dry Bag to keep my stuff protected when I’m on the water via Canoe/Kayak/Boat/SUP. You can also wear it as a backpack!
