Your Full Adventure Guide to Mont-Tremblant National Park

If you’re looking for the perfect balance between adventure and going on retreat, Mont-Tremblant National Park in Quebec is the perfect destination for you. This stunning park, located in the Laurentians of Quebec, offers a diverse range of activities, picturesque views, and the opportunity to connect with nature. This is one of my favourite National Park’s in Canada to visit time and time again, and I’m excited to share what this park holds to help you plan your next adventure there!

Where to Stay: Ready-To-Camp

For a unique and comfy way to experience the park, I highly recommend staying in one of the Ready-To-Camp sites. These charming tents are fully equipped with beds, lights, and even a full kitchen. It’s camping, but without the hassle of setting up or worrying about the weather. The setup is perfect for anyone who wants to spend the night in the great outdoors without sacrificing comfort. Personally, I think waking up to the fresh morning air surrounded by the forest is an experience you can’t beat.

Coffee & Last Minute Groceries: Farouche

Before you get too settled in, a trip to Farouche in the nearby village just outside of the National Park is a must. It’s this quaint little market and café that offers some food and items you may need—local grocery essentials, bug spray, and some of the best coffee around. Their matcha was some of the best I’ve ever had, and the views it has makes it worth the visit regardless of if you even need anything! I picked up some meat and cheese to cook for dinner at the Ready-To-Camp, as well as some locally made honey to bring home.

Exploring by Water: Kayaking with Loons

One of the highlights of visiting Mont-Tremblant National Park is seeing the many, many lakes–I’m talking about 400–that are in the park! I highly suggest kayaking with Loons if you want to explore the park by water a bit more intimately. The area is rich in wildlife, and you may be lucky enough to spot a few different animals like Deer, Loons, Ducks, Canadian Geese, Beavers, or others. Keep your eyes peeled! The guide we had at kayaking with Loons was so friendly and knowledgeable, they translated back and forth between French and English for those who speak different languages, and always made sure we were safe while also teaching us about the area’s ecosystem.

Located at the Discovery Centre.

A Rush of Adrenaline: Via Ferrata

If you want to add a little (or a lot) of adrenaline to your trip, I highly recommend trying a Via Ferrata course. It’s an exciting mix of hiking and rock climbing, where you’re harnessed in and guided along the cliffside with stunning views of the valley below. It’s a great way to challenge yourself while also seeing the park in a different way. Even if you’re not an experienced climber, the guides are there to help you every step of the way. The views from the top are absolutely worth the climb! I will definitely come back to do this activity again.

Hiking:

Mont-Tremblant National Park is home to 22 hiking trails. These trails offer a variety of views from waterfalls, pristine lakes, mountain views, lookouts and lush forests. I have hiked 3 trails here, and each one has been unique and beautiful.

  • La Roche (5 km) – a trail that leads you to one of the best viewpoints in the park. The hike is a mix of forest paths and rocky terrain. When you reach the summit, the panoramic views are just stunning. You can see the sprawling landscape of the Laurentians, and it makes the climb feel completely worth it. Can’t recommend this hike enough! (Fun Fact: If you do the kayaking with Loons in Lac Monroe, you can see La Roche lookout platform from the water)
  • Chutes-aux-Rats (9.4 km) – located in the Pimbina-Saint-Donat sector, a beautiful 17.4m waterfall. I saw this waterfall from a parking lot without doing the full trail, so if that’s more your speed that’s also an option!
  • L’Envol Trail (4.3 km) – located in the Pimbina-Saint-Donat sector, the trail is fairly gentle, with a mix of easy forest paths and some slight inclines. As you hike, you’ll be treated to lovely views of the surrounding mountains and lakes.

Dinner with a View: Bistro Le Loch

After a day full of adventure, nothing beats a relaxing dinner at Bistro Le Loch. Situated right on the water, the bistro offers the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the lake. Make sure to make reservations ahead of time because it’s quite popular, especially around sunset. The food here is incredible—fresh, local, and thoughtfully prepared.

Scandinave Spa:

Renowned for its outdoor baths and steam rooms, this spa offers a forest-based experience. If you’re in need of some pampering after your outdoor activities, this is definitely the spot. My husband and I had a duo massage here after our adventures in the National Park and it was a great way to end the trip. We felt so rejuvenated.

Wildlife in Mont-Tremblant National Park

One of the things that makes Mont-Tremblant so special is its rich wildlife. The park is home to a variety of animals, including deer, moose, black bears, beavers, and an array of birds, including the iconic loons. In fact, the park’s name comes from the Tremblant mountain, which means “the trembling mountain,” referring to the vibrations you can sometimes feel when a bear or moose is nearby. Keep your eyes peeled when you’re kayaking, hiking, or simply relaxing by the water, as the wildlife here is abundant and often surprisingly close!

Know Before You Go:

  • Mont-Tremblant National Park is a Dark Sky International Park: A certified Dark Sky International Park is a protected area recognized for its exceptional night skies and preserved nocturnal environment, valued for its scientific, natural, and educational significance.
  • Reservations: Make sure to book your Ready-To-Camp site, dinner at Bistro Le Loch and Scandinave Spa ahead of time, especially in peak season.
  • Wildlife Safety: Always keep a safe distance from wildlife. Don’t feed animals, and be cautious.

Mont-Tremblant National Park is a perfect mix of adventure and finding peace, offering something for everyone. Whether you’re exploring by water, hiking to incredible viewpoints, or connecting with your loved ones at the park, it’s easy to see why this park is a favorite for both locals and tourists. I always leave this park with new memories of incredible landscapes, peaceful moments, and the feeling of having truly connected with nature.

Can’t wait to go back!
