Fall is coming, which means rainier weather is also on its way. But like I always say, weather should not stop you from getting outside (most of the time.)
So how do we prepare for rain and enjoy getting outside in it? Let’s talk about it.
1) Dress accordingly
What do you wear in rain you ask?
- Rain coat
- Rain boots
- Splash pants
- Optional: mittens and hat
Recently I was sent rain attire from Jan & Jul and they asked me to test them out; they also sent some rain attire for my two kiddos! We all received raincoats, and my kids also received waterproof pants, and boots!

All of their rain gear is lined with such warm material. It’s soft and keeps you warm, but they also keep the rain off you! I was able to play in the rain for 3 hours without getting wet.
My favourite feature of the raincoats is that there is a drawstring attachment on the inside of the coats where you can cinch your waist. I am wearing a size medium in the attached photos.
My kids love getting dressed for the rain and matching me. They also got boots to go with their outfits, and they are also so soft!
To be honest, it’s usually hard to get my toddlers dressed appropriately for weather because they’re very picky. But I can honestly say they are excited to put on these outfits! That may be the best part.

2) Make the most of the weather
If you have a hard time getting outside when it’s raining, start small. Maybe it’s sitting on your back deck with a book and a coffee, or going for a walk around your neighbourhood.
If you want a great way to occupy children, try creating a “mud kitchen” outside – put mud, water, sticks, and rocks into little bowls and mixing them.
One of my favourite parts about rain is when it creates unique sights like mist, rainbows, and fog so be on the lookout and take some photos!

3) Photo op: Have a fall photoshoot
Like I said, rain can create some really unique weather features. It also provides puddles which are great reflections, raindrops which add dimension and so many other affects that are so photogenic! Try a rainy fall photoshoot and have fun with it.
Pose Ideas:

Fall activities to take photos of:

I hope this was able to spark those creative juices and inspires you to get outside, even if it’s raining.
Have fun exploring!
