If you’ve seen the title of this post, you can probably see that I had a huge waterfall adventure!
Hamilton, Ontario is home to over 100 waterfalls and today my friend JR and I crossed 3 more of them off our list. We headed to our first waterfall in the early afternoon and adventured until dark.
We started at Sherman Falls because we had both been there before and wanted to take some photos. I bought my first roll of film in years just before going to the waterfalls, so this was a great opportunity for me to get some killer shots (or epic fails).
It was great seeing JR for the first time in almost 2 years. Life’s been crazy for everyone, but reconnecting with old friends and getting some fresh air is a really great way to spend the day if you ask me! I met JR in college, we both took the Digital Photography program. We have had many photo adventures before, but this one is one of my favourites.
Sherman Falls
Sherman Falls is a 17 meter high waterfall. This is a breathtaking waterfall, as the surrounding forest looks magical. It’s actually on private property, but thankfully the owners of the land are kind enough to let people explore this area.
You can park around the corner at Artaban Road for $11. I haven’t ever seen this parking lot busy, and it’s quite big!

Tiffany Falls
Next on our list to see was Tiffany Falls, a 21 meter high waterfall – bigger than Sherman! Fun fact, this waterfall was actually named after the districts first doctor.
This waterfall was also breathtaking. The path leading up to it had two little bridges to cross, and then it had a viewing platform.
I can’t wait to come visit these waterfalls in the winter when they’re all iced over.

Shavers Falls
I’ll be very honest here – this was kind of a flop. We wanted to go to Upper Shavers Falls, but the water levels were very low so it was almost fully dried up.
With that being said, it was an extremely beautiful walk around the area and there is a Bruce trail connection there. It’s definitely worth the visit, even with low water levels. The closest parking to Shavers Falls is on Filman Road and it’s free to park, but there is only 1-2 parking spaces there.

Other waterfalls in the area:
If you’re looking for other waterfalls that are close by to these, you can check out
- Washboard Falls
- Canterbury Falls
- Websters Falls
- Lower Shavers Falls
Tips for hiking at a waterfall:
- Do your research before going – make sure it’s legal (often times I see photos of waterfalls and when I go there are signs for $10,000 fine if you climb to the bottom)
- Wear proper footwear – usually waterfalls have lots of mud and rocks
- Try using your camera on a slow shutter speed for smoother looking water

When we develop our photos I will add them to this blog post!

Thanks so much for reading about another adventure, I can’t wait for the next one!
Keep on trekking,
