Kelso Conservation in Milton, Ontario

We have been having some rainy weather, but I don’t want that stopping me from getting out and enjoying nature. Especially when rain makes trails less busy! So, for this hike, I went out with my 7-month-old son Beau in the pouring rain, and hiked at Kelso Conservation for the first time.

Before starting this trail, I was a little skeptical to try it because I had read many reviews saying that this trail is hard to navigate – specifically the beginning of the trail. What better way to figure it out than to see for yourself?

When I made a reservation for the trail before arriving, I made my reservation for the Main Entrance instead of the Summit Entrance. When you start at the Main Entrance, the largest lookout is the first one you see; and if you start at the Summit Entrance, it’s the last one you see.

Main lookout – First lookout from Main Entrance

I started on the trail behind the East Gate, and it is a gravel path that leads up a ski slope for the first kilometre. The top of that is where the main lookout is. If you enter the forest, the Bruce Trail connection begins. I took that for 6 kilometres and then turned around.

It’s a pretty easy trail – however, the rain I was in added a fun challenge of trying not to slide. I also had my son in his carrier attached to my chest. My hiking boots are waterproof (thankfully), so instead of navigating alternate routes, I just walked through the sludge and puddles.

The trail was well marked with white blazed trees. It was very relaxing and the rain falling through the trees added a very refreshing feel to the environment. I love rainy hikes, even more so when there’s misty forests.

I urge everyone to add hiking to their rainy day bucket list.

Their were two other lookouts I saw that were unforgettable.

For having lived in the Niagara Region for so long, I am surprised at how little I’ve heard people talk about this trail. It has lots of parking, a beach nearby, magnificent scenery, and 29km of trails around this spot (not to mention the other trails).

thanks for coming along for another adventure, I am so excited for the next one!

Sincerely,
