Devils Punchbowl, Hamilton ON

Having grown up in Niagara, I have seen a lot of waterfalls. But waterfalls that show different types of clay beneath the Earth’s surface are such an incredible thing to see.

The Devils Punchbowl is a waterfall and lookout over the Stoney Creek escarpment. This location offers a lookout over the Hamilon Harbour, Stoney Creek, a lookout of the Punchbowl rock/clay layers, and a lookout of the waterfall.

There is a $7.50 parking fee at the lookout and the parking lot isn’t very big so on weekends it can get quite crowded.

I went with one of my best friends, Laura, and we were very prepared for the steep climbs that you can undertake. With that being said, it was very challenging at some points if you go off the marked trail (which we did).

I used my AllTrails app to keep track of our adventure and we hiked via the Bruce Trail Devils Punchbowl Side Trail to get to the lower level.

We spent 2 hours wandering around, taking different paths and admiring the entirety of what this spot had to offer. We walked a total of 7km, which is surprising since the trail loop definitely is not that long (maybe 3.5km) but we really did venture off.

We packed water bottles, a hat, and a small snack and I recommend those things for anyone who conquers this trail.

I’ve started this blog to document my journeys, kind of as a time capsule for myself. But I hope that I can expire you to get outside and to enjoy the beautiful views that this world has to offer.
